Date night for Tyler and I used to involve two hours of me trying on different dresses, curling my hair, then putting it up, then taking it down again. It would sometimes include four different stops to meet up with friends. And way back in the day, it was hours past midnight by the time we made it home.
Last Friday, we utilized the gift card that we received to the New Theatre Dinner Restaurant for Christmas from my parents. We were excited for a few uninterrupted hours together (it was our first date by ourselves since Everly was born) but it also got me thinking about just how much date night has changed since we became the parents of two children.
Here is a look into our romantic date night...
We spent every last minute before we rushed out the door trying to figure out how to switch the broken frame on our stroller to the new one that had just arrived in the mail earlier that day. We finally make it out the door 5 minutes later than our goal - not bad!!
We enjoyed our dinner together holding hands which was nice since our arms are usually full with kiddos. As we finish our dinner, we talk about what Aliyah is having for dinner and send a text to see what she and Everly are up to.
We watch the show stealing a kiss or two when the lights go out. We whisper back and forth changing our minds about who we think is guilty of the murder mystery.
At Intermission we share dessert, finish our glasses of champagne and send another text to see how the girls are doing and both admit that we miss them.
When the show is over, we agree that our time together alone was just what we needed and how much we were looking forward to seeing our girls.
We are greeted at the door with hugs, kisses and smiles a little before 10pm.
Yup! some things have changed quite a bit, while other things are exactly the same... I love how our past and present intertwine to create what our beautiful family is today. I wouldn't change a thing!
